Liverpool fans should hope for a Manchester United win this evening

Premier League Trophy

If Manchester United prevent a Manchester City victory this evening, Liverpool would be in the position where if they win all their games, they would win their first top flight title in 24 years.

It is a bit of a weird situation tonight for Liverpool fans as their fiercest rivals Manchester United take on title rivals Manchester City.

Are they uncomfortable supporting Manchester United? Some certainly are on our Liverpool Facebook page. But, if you’re a Liverpool fan you really should be supporting David Moyes and his players as they have an opportunity to put a massive dent in Manchester City’s title challenge.

Some may be enjoying United’s miserable season so much that they want to see them suffer even more – but the phrase ‘cutting your nose off to spite your face’ comes to mind.

As it stands, Manchester City can afford to lose to Liverpool as long as they win the rest of their games this season, but if City were to drop points against their local rivals at Old Trafford, it makes the magnitude of the clash at Anfield on April 13th even bigger. It will be an opportunity for Liverpool to overtake Manchester City provided the Reds keep their winning run going.

Also, imagine the bragging rights if everything between now and the end of the season goes according to plan for Liverpool. Imagine constantly reminding of them of the time they helped Liverpool back onto their perch after all the years of the men from the other end of the East Lancs Road.

United winning or drawing against City tonight would bring about one of the best opportunities for Liverpool to end their 24 year wait for the crown. Can fans of the club be absolutely certain this is going to come around again in the near future?

Surely the success of your own club means far more than the failure of one of your rivals? If there was ever a night for a Liverpool fan to hope for a Manchester United win, it is tonight.
