How we beat Arsenal: Chelsea star identifies one main winning tactic

Andre Schurrle, Germany National Football Team

Chelsea's Andre Schurrle has revealed the secret of their 6-0 demolition of Arsenal.

Chelsea attacker Andre Schurrle has expressed his satisfaction at beating Arsenal last weekend, admitting the scale of the victory surprised him.

On Arsene Wenger's 1,000th game not many would have dared predict a 6-0 loss for the Gunners, but Schurrle has hinted it was carefully planned for.

He told Chelsea's official website there was one tactic which the Blues knew they could take advantage of, and Arsenal played right into their hands.

"We knew that their full-backs are very offensive and when Arsenal lose the ball there is a lot of space and we wanted to use it, and we had a lot of very good transitions.

"The 4-0 at half-time was really good. In the second half we played well and it was a super, super game for us."

Right from the start Arsenal poured forwards, and almost scored themselves through Olivier Giroud. Their attacking approach proved their undoing however as they conceded two goals in the first seven minutes, with Schurrle at the centre of it.

The German set up a goal for Samuel Eto'o and fired in a ruthless strike two minutes later to double the lead.

Arsenal had lost the ball high up the pitch on both occasions and been hit on the counter, just as they were at Anfield in their 5-1 defeat.

Early in the season Arsenal were exposed by Aston Villa's counter-attacks, and they will have to adjust against a dangerous Swansea side they are not cut apart in the same manner.

Premier League sides may well listen to Schurrle's comments with interest, and seek to adapt their own games against Arsenal.  For Wenger's side, making their own adjustments and reining in full-backs will be a change they themselves will have to look at.
