Bank of America Merrill Lynch and the National Theatre has announced a multi-year partnership in support of NT Future, the National’s £80m redevelopment project which will transform the facilities the theatre offers audiences and artists, enhance its relationship with the environment and place education firmly at the heart of its mission.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s support of NT Future will include the creation of a revitalised green space overlooking the Thames for the benefit of visitors and the local community, and help achieve the National’s aim of a 25% reduction in CO2 output by 2015 through environmental improvements and efficiencies. The partnership will also support the NT’s Apprentices scheme, both financially and through workshops and mentoring.
'Our partnership with the National Theatre reflects both organisations’ focus on thinking for tomorrow by acting today, using the arts as a powerful facilitator', said Andrea Sullivan, head of Corporate Responsibility for EMEA and Latin America at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. 'NT Future will strengthen the Theatre’s engagement with audiences and the local community and improve its economic and environmental sustainability, whilst our support of NT Apprentices will help provide the next generation with vital job skills. Additionally, the greening of the terrace will offer visitors a new way to connect with the beauty of the Thames. We are honoured to be NT Future’s lead corporate supporter'.
Lisa Burger, chief operating officer of the National and NT Future Project Director, commented, 'We are delighted to welcome Bank of America Merrill Lynch as NT Future’s founding corporate partner, building on the very successful relationship established through the firm’s previous support of NT Connections. Their vision and commitment will enable us to achieve more of NT Future’s key ambition: to make our building and work as open, sustainable and stimulating as possible to an ever-growing audience'.
