Liverpool style woos the neutrals says Reds player

Glen Johnson believes that Liverpool will be the neutral’s choice as Premier League champions this season.

In an interview reported by The Mirror, Liverpool fullback Glen Johnson believes that the neutral Premier League supporter will be backing his side in the title run-in.

The Reds currently occupy second spot in the Premier League table, four points behind league leaders Chelsea with a game in hand and the Blues still to visit Anfield in late April.

With Manchester City just a further two points back, with three games in hand on Chelsea, it promises to be the most exciting three-way title-race for many years.

Liverpool rise has been quite remarkable. In Brendan Rodger’s debut season charge, the Reds finished in a lowly seventh position, a massive 12 points behind fourth place Arsenal and two points adrift of Merseyside rivals Everton.

This season, despite a top four spot being the number one target, Liverpool have crushed pre-season expectations and their current total of 65 points is already four points better off than what they managed in the whole of last season.

What has been their secret? Well, it certainly hasn’t been their defence, that’s for sure.

Liverpool’s most impressive stat is their goalscoring antics. Their 82 goals in 30 games is a Premier League club record, and as a result of a slightly faulty defence, their games this season have averaged more goals than any other club in Europe’s top leagues.

Does this make them the most exciting team to watch? Glen Johnson certainly believes so, and went as far as saying Liverpool are the team the neutrals will want to win the Premier League title this season.

He said: “Just to spice it up, I think neutrals would want to see us win the title. Nobody wants the same teams winning it over and over again.”

"People watch football to enjoy themselves, see goals and exciting play, and we tick all those boxes. People will be rooting for us because it will be something different.”
