In a much-anticipated Champions League quarter-final draw which took place last Friday, Chelsea were drawn out to play French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
With the number of quality teams left in the tournament, any opponent would have been difficult. Yet, for Jose Mourinho’s side, perhaps drawing Paris Saint-Germain can be deemed favourable.
There promises to be a number of high quality battles on display, with the likes of John Terry and Gary Cahill up against Swedish maestro Zlatan Ibrahimovic, plus a sudden Premier League return for former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye who may feel he has a point to prove.
Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho is famed for his controversial comments and presumed mind-games ahead of big clashes, and in an interview with French press Le Parisien Sport, he has already began by naming Paris Saint-Germain as favourites.
The reasoning, however, wasn’t Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s impressive 10 goals in 7 Champions League appearances, but rather the reported €1m bonus that each player will receive if they win the competition which the striker negotiated.
Jose Mourinho is bidding to become the first manager in history to win Europe's top prize with three different clubs – having already won it with Porto and Inter Milan.
When asked what he would do if Chelsea lifted the trophy this season, the Daily Mail reports that Mourinho will make a big donation with the prize-money.
He revealed: 'If we win it this season, I am going to make a big donation to charity!'
Despite a Champions League trophy perhaps being improbable for Chelsea this term, Mourinho’s favoured charities nonetheless will certainly be urging the Blues on to victory.
