Speaking on ‘Match Of The Day 2’ last night, Schmeichel hinted that Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana would be a fine acquisition for David Moyes side, stating that ‘big players should play for big clubs’.
Lallana has been in fine form all season for Southampton, and has yet to miss a game for the club, scoring eight times so far, with four assists to his name in the Premier League.
There have already been reports that the Old Trafford club are lining up a move for Lallana, with teammate Luke Shaw also a transfer target for David Moyes.
The composure and creativity of Adam Lallana would undoubtedly improve the United team, and the Saints man showcased his talents once again yesterday, scoring in the 3-2 defeat to Tottenham.
Lallana looks set to travel to Brazil with the England squad for the World Cup, with Roy Hodgson praising his influence after the recent 1-0 friendly win against Denmark.
“From the 60th minute onwards we showed some really good play and Adam Lallana made a big difference,” Hodgson said after the game.
A solid showing at the World Cup will do Lallana’s credentials no harm, and it would appear unlikely at this stage that he will still be a Southampton player come September.
United would surely have to sell first if he were to move to Manchester United, with Shinji Kagawa the most likely to make way.
Kagawa has failed to make much of an impression at Old Trafford since moving from Borussia Dortmund for £12m in June 2012.
He has no goals or assists in eleven appearances this season, and has struggled to make an impact at Manchester United.
He did however impress in Saturday’s 2-0 win at West Ham, but it would appear that Moyes is looking at replacing the Japanese international.
Juan Mata was brought in to add creativity to the Manchester United midfield, but the addition of Lallana would further strengthen the side.
David Moyes has changed his tactics of late, and is placing more emphasis on the creative midfielders at his disposal, and a move for Adam Lallana certainly looks to be on the horizon.
Would Adam Lallana be a good signing for Manchester United?
