The Premier League provided no shortage of talking points over the weekend, with Arsenal thrashed at Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool securing impressive wins and a solid victory for Manchester United.
Focus in the Premier League now switches to some important mid-week fixtures, which can leave the rest of the season setup well.
This time of year always gets fans talking and buzzing with anticipation and we’ve decided to take a look back at the stories that were making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Torres for Falcao swap’
The Mail on Sunday claimed that Chelsea were looking at the possibility of offloading Fernando Torres to get their hands on Radamel Falcao.
Falcao, then at Atletico Madrid, is one of the most talked about strikers in world football.
He subsequently went on to join AS Monaco but at Atletico, he presented an apparent option for Torres to move back to Spain, a possibility which is still being reported.
‘Vucinic drops Premier League hint’
Mirko Vucinic revealed his admiration for the Premier League as both Manchester clubs were linked with moves for the Juventus front man.
Vucinic had, and still has, a reputation as a very underrated and experienced striker who often becomes linked with sides looking for an effective attacking signing.
“It’s hard for me to find the answer why England are not doing better. It’s strange because, for me, the Premier League is one of the very best leagues in the world,” said the Montenegrin.
‘Gunners hand trial to Nigerian defender’
Arsenal offered a trial to 22-year-old Godfrey Oboabona, a prominent member of the Nigerian national side.
Arsene Wenger has always been a superb manager when it comes to taking potentially exciting younger players on short term trials and Oboabona arrived at the club with a solid reputation as one of the best defensive talents in Africa.
“Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for,” said the player.
