Every Monday, Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata takes to his blog to give fans an insight into the life of a footballer, or more specifically, the life of one player in particular.
Mata was integral in United’s 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Saturday, despite not getting on the score-sheet himself.
His interplay with Wayne Rooney was extremely impressive and suggested the beginning of a beautiful partnership in the extended absence of Robin van Persie.
But while Mata was pleased with the result – and the previous victory against Olympiakos that he watched from the crowd – it is now all about the Manchester derby.
“This is football and, whether you like it or not, you don’t get much time to enjoy the victories or mourn for defeats,” he wrote.
Speaking of the upcoming derby, Mata added, “It will be the first one for me and I’m looking forward to it. You can already feel in the streets that special atmosphere.”
While United may not be challenging for the title as they would have hoped, they can still have a big say on where it ends up. And as they continue to play their way back into form, a victory over the Blues should not be understated as they look to build up sufficient momentum to overcome Bayern Munich in the next round of the Champions League.
But it is at Old Trafford that Mata knows United must improve.
“We must get better results at home,” he wrote. “In the away games we are the best team so far.”
