Roberto Martinez has warned Everton's Premier League rivals not to discount them from the battle for a top four finish.
Arsenal enjoy a four-point margin over the Blues ahead of their trip to Newcastle tomorrow night but Martinez's side have a game in hand over their north London counterparts, who received a 6-0 humilation from Chelsea in Arsene Wenger's 1,000th game in charge last weekend.
And with 24 points to play for between now and the end of the season, the Spaniard believes that Everton can reach the 70-point target that would keep them in contention to secure Champions League qualification.
"I think what's important is that we carry on with the incredible return of points that we have with our home form," he told his pre-match press conference.
"If you look at the last six home games, they've given us full points. That's a terrific run and that's important that we take that into the away form.
"We're looking at how many points we can get. It's not a moment to be looking at the table because you're going to get ups and downs, and moments that you need to rely on other teams. What we need to do is get as many points as we can.
"As I've said many times, if you want to get into the Champions League you need to look over those 70 points and that's where we're looking. If we can get to the end of the season and reach anywhere near that figure then we can be looking at where that could take us.
"In the league now, as the margins get narrowed in the final nine games of the season for us and eight games for other teams, every position in the table matters and every effort and every margin until the end of the campaign will have its importance.
"We're trying to affect those margins and trying to get as many points as we can."
