We bring you some of the top Wii U games to watch out for this year.
If you’ve bought yourself a Wii U and are feeling a little lost when it comes to what games to buy, do not fret, we’ve got you covered! Take a look at our first selection below, including some plastic-looking dwarves and some of Nintendo’s elite who’re set to duke it out. Let’s get started!
LEGO The Hobbit – 11 April 2014
Based on the first two movies of The Hobbit trilogy, LEGO The Hobbit will let you assume the roles of your favourite characters from the franchise – including Bilbo, Gandalf, and all of the Dwarves. They all have their own special abilities, for example, Bombur’s let’s his companions ‘belly-bounce’ out of danger by using him as a trampoline. Check out the humorous trailer below.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 29 April 2014 US / 2 May 2014 UK
The inevitable tie-in of the movie with the same name, The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s story follows up from the previous game runs alongside the movie. Spidey will come across new villains and old friends as he encounters a new threat to New York City. You’ll be able to web-sling your way around the city in full free-roaming style. There’s also a new ‘Hero or Menace’ system, which rewards you for fighting crime, but there are also repercussions if you let crime spread. Have a gander at the trailer for the game below, and see Spidey become ‘the ultimate hunter’.
Watch Dogs - TBA 2014
Set in an alternate-Chicago, this third-person sandbox game will see you hacking into the city’s Central Operating System (ctOS) in order to complete your objectives. The ctOS is the network that links most of Chicago’s technology and information, which includes all resident’s data. As Aiden Pearce, an adept hacker, you will be able to manipulate the ctOS to your advantage; having trouble escaping the police? Operate the traffic lights to command the flow of cars, aiding in your escape. Or maybe you need to hack some security cameras for a better view on your objective? Go for it! With release dates set for other consoles, the Wii U version’s date is still yet to be announced, but we’re hopeful we’ll be seeing it in 2014. Take a look at the story trailer below – please be aware however, that the trailer isn’t running the game on the Wii U, so the graphics will differ.
Super Smash Bros. – TBA 2014
Have you ever wondered who would win in a fight between Mario and Link? Or even Pikachu and the Wii Fit Trainer? Well, you’ll be able to find out when Super Smash Bros is released on Wii U later this year. Pitting some of the most popular characters from the Nintendo universe head to head against each other, Super Smash Bros. has long been a favourite on Nintendo systems since its first appearance on the N64.
