Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea left a message for Wayne Rooney following his fabulous strike against West Ham United.

Wayne Rooney has scored some fabulous goals in his career, but he will be hard pressed to find a better one than his audacious lob against West Ham United.

Following Robin Van Persie’s injury against Olympiakos in midweek, David Moyes opted to start Wayne Rooney as the number one striker at Upton Park on Saturday evening.

It was a decision which ultimately got the best out of Juan Mata and Shinji Kagawa, and also gave Rooney more licence to go for goal – which he did with aplomb.

After just eight minutes on the clock, Rooney received a bouncing ball just inside the Hammer’s half with nobody in front of him. Instinctively, he launched an audacious lob which gave West Ham United keeper Adrian no chance in the host’s net.

It was a remarkable goal, and one which set the tone as Rooney doubled United’s lead as the visitors comfortably sealed a 2-0 victory.

One man accustomed to Wayne Rooney’s phenomenal ball striking ability is Manchester United’s number one goalkeeper David de Gea.

After watching Rooney’s belter from one of the best views in the house, he took to Twitter after the game to leave his teammate a witty message.

He Tweeted:
