Sunday rumour mill: Spurs have three-man shortlist to replace Sherwood

The Daily Mail state that the North London side will look to Louis van Gaal, Mauricio Pochettino or Rafa Benitez this summer.

Poor Tim Sherwood isn’t being given much of a chance at Tottenham, with the former midfielder looking unable to steer the North London club into the top four this season.

As a result the manager’s position at White Hart Lane is consistently being questioned, as a more experienced manager is said to be on Daniel Levy’s wishlist.

The Daily Mail have today stated that Spurs will look to replace Sherwood this summer, with three men identified as possible new bosses.

Louis van Gaal has been widely acknowledged as a potential option, with the veteran trainer set to step down from his position as the Netherlands national side’s boss after the World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders since taking over at Southampton, with the Saints playing an enviable brand of football under the former Espanyol boss.

With Nicola Cortese leaving St Mary’s earlier this year, Pochettino’s future at the club is being questioned, and Tottenham are believed to be major suitors of the former defender.

Finally, Rafa Benitez has been added as a potential target in an ambitious suggestion.

The former Liverpool boss has been excelling at Napoli this season, and despite not progressing through the Champions League group stage the San Paolo outfit are likely to qualify for Europe’s major tournament again next season.

If Van Gaal does leave his role with Netherlands then it seems likely that he could be attracted to White Hart Lane as he has stated his ambition to manage in England.

Pochettino could surely be tempted away from Southampton, but Benitez leaving Napoli to move to Spurs would be a major shock.
