Arsenal have done it again - been absolutely pulverised by a title rival.
Following crushing defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City already this season they suffered the same fate against Chelsea yesterday.
5-1, 6-3 and 6-0 - four goals scored and 17 conceded against the other teams in the top four of the Premier League.
Bear in mind Arsenal have conceded just 34 goals in the Premier League all season and that statistic becomes even more harrowing. Over 50% of their goals conceded in the league this season has come in three games.
There was of course many a talking point from yesterday’s game.
The red card for Kieran Gibbs that was meant for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being one - but when it comes to players on the pitch nobody had a more talkative display than goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Last week he was gloating - taking selfies at White Hart Lane after Arsenal rode their luck to a 1-0 win.
A week later he was on the end of another hammering - and some of the fans were quite disappointed with his performance.
Szczesny has had a good season.
After his poor campaign last year, and his terrible start to the new season against Aston Villa, he has turned performances on their head.
But yesterday was not one of his best days.
He did make the odd decent save here and there. One from David Luiz really stands out for example.
But he should have done a lot better for Oscar’s second goal - that is obvious. But even a couple of the other goals were stoppable.
The Andre Schurrle strike should have been stopped, he adopted a poor position for Mohamed Salah’s cool finish and, in my hyper critical opinion, I feel he should have anticipated the Samuel Eto’o opener better - but like I said, that last one is me being particulary critical.
However it surely raises questions over Szczesny once again.
At Arsenal he is a comfortable number one choice.
Lukasz Fabianski is going, Emiliano Viviano won’t be sticking around while Damian Martinez and Deyan Aliev are not going to make him lose any sleep at night.
Perhaps a big name stopper - someone with experience like Pepe Reina - this summer could help rather than hinder this young stopper - who still has plenty to learn.
Here is some of your reaction to his performance…
If Arsenal has Chamberlain in goal, he'd probably make better saves than Szczesny did all game.— Othaina Eid (@OthainaEid) March 23, 2014
"Szczesny, last seen starring in a selfie on the pitch after last week’s NLD, will not care to watch his role in a horror movie."— Felix Flemming (@medispolis) March 23, 2014
Can't blame anybody but Szczesny could have done better in 2nd 4th 5th and 6th goals— Orgasm Donor (@_Asante_) March 23, 2014
@mickquinn1089 Just watched Che v Ars, if it wasn't for Szczesny it could of been 10-0 and if it wasn't for Szczesny it could have been 2-0— Paul Collins (@TheBlueFlash1) March 23, 2014
Many people blaming Giroud, is that not waste of time, we know he's an idiot.. but please CURSE Szczesny for the 1st 2 goals, PLEASE!!!— Jaybee (@Jayokla) March 23, 2014
There isn't more appalling goalkeeping than what Szczęsny did yesterday, even if someone tried deliberately. #Arsenal— #InMoyesWeTrust (@StrayNomad) March 23, 2014
The Ox makes a better goalie than Szczesny. At least he made an excellent save which Szczesny couldn't do all afternoon#— babu ahmed (@babuahmed88) March 23, 2014
Meh, Szczesny didn't even look like he tried to save anything off his goal. Boring.— Fauzan Meidireza (@ossameidireza) March 23, 2014
