Tottenham morning news: Pochettino on Spurs rumours; Sherwood on managing emotions

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

The Telegraph reports that Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood is considering a self-imposed touchline ban as he bids to end the histrionics that have made headlines recently.

The Spurs boss has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks but sat behind Daniel Levy for the club’s recent Europa League match against Benfica.

If I can try and be a bit calmer and not manage on emotion too much, I think it would help,” Sherwood said.

Doubts remain over his long-term future, but for now he will be focused solely on ensuring his side finish as high up the Premier League table as possible.

In other news, former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has revealed he has not given up on a World Cup place despite his recent move to Toronto.

In quotes published by Sky Sports, Defoe said, “At the end of the day you need to be playing regularly and playing well to get into a World Cup squad. You can’t be at a club where you’re not playing.”

Speaking of a fresh start, Defoe also spoke his lack of regular first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane. But it will be interesting to see if his form in the MLS ensures he is on the plane to Brazil this summer.

And finally, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking about the links between him and a possible move to Tottenham next summer.

In quotes published by the Daily Star, the Saints boss said, “Rumours are normal in football and it does not affect me at all.”

For now he is surely only thinking about inspiring his side to three points, but as for the future, who knows?
