Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed on Friday that the club’s leading striker Sergio Aguero would definitely be out of the Manchester derby on Tuesday - despite training alone for the past couple of days.
"Maybe next week he will start working with the squad. Maybe the end of the week."
With that in mind it appeared as though there was hope regarding the availability of the Argentine for the game after United - which happens to be against Arsenal.
The sides will go into the game after taking on United and Swansea respectively - a game Arsenal will need to win.
Today saw both clubs have very different results - as City thrashed Fulham and Arsenal were demolished by Chelsea 6-0.
Arsenal are therefore smarting and would not have particulary wanted City’s best goalscorer back firing just ahead of the game - but he showed off his progress via his Instagram earlier today.
His hamstring problem appears to be dissipating faster than anticipated - and there is clearly a chance he could make it back for the game against Arsenal next weekend.
Just what The Gunners need considering he bagged the opener when the two met in December - a game that ended in a humbling 6-3 defeat.
