Lineker jokes about Wenger's woe but praises Mourinho

Gary Lineker

Former player turned TV presenter Gary Lineker has had his say on the match between Chelsea and Arsenal.

Well, not many people expected that.

When the final whistle blew at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, Chelsea fans roared in delight while Arsenal supporters wondered if it had all been a bad - if recurring - dream.

Having been humbled at Anfield they suffered an even bigger defeat against Jose Mourinho's men, losing 6-0 and falling seven points behind them in the process.

There is still a lot of football to be played, but with Liverpool and Manchester City both having games in hand over Arsene Wenger's men, the Gunners could soon be fighting for little more than fourth place.

Always keen to have his say on the day's football, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker took to Twitter to make a light-hearted joke at Wenger's less than successful 1000th game in charge.

'Let's not be too quick to judge Arsene Wenger,' Lineker wrote.  'It's only his 1000th game at the club'.

But he was more effusive in his praise for his managerial counterpart Mourinho, whose latest triumph could be overshadowed by Wenger's tainted milestone.

'We shouldn't forget Mourinho's astonishing record at Stamford Bridge,' Lineker wrote.

And you can be sure Chelsea fans will not, even if the Arsenal faithful will want to forget everything about this afternoon as soon as possible.
