The Dutch striker rekindled his form on Wednesday night to show everyone just how good and important he can be for Manchester United.
It remains obvious the kind pulling power the former Arsenal man has at the club due to his 'world class' stature. So, if Moyes was to get sacked, it begs the question, could he directly impact the choice of manager at Old Trafford?
Dutch writer Thijs Slegers told Danny Kelly and Andy Jacobs of talkSPORT: ''Maybe the Man United job becomes free and we can be damn sure that Robin van Persie has said to the directors at Man United, think about Van Gaal if you are looking for a new coach because Van Gaal and Van Persie are very close in the Dutch national team.
''Van Persie loves the way he treats a group of players, loves the way he thinks about football so we can be sure that Van Persie will try to get Van Gaal in if David Moyes loses his job.''
The only thing we know for absolute certain is that in the summer Van Gaal will be available for a team to pick up, with him admitting the Premier League is his preferred destination.
'My ambition is to coach a top team in the Premier League. I have never experienced the atmosphere in England,' Van Gaal told German newspaper Bild.
Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to land the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, however, could another poor run of games lead to Robin van Persie demanding the directors to look at Van Gaal, regardless of whether Moyes is still in a job or not?
