Arsenal fan, broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan was left with egg all over his face after questioning David Moyes’ decision to start Ryan Giggs against Olympiakos last night.
It would have been a surprise to many to see the 40-year-old lining up in midfield for such an important game and Morgan ripped into the selection as Giggs initially struggled to have an impact.
However, the experienced Welshman gradually grew into the game with two key passes, one of which created a Robin Van Persie goal.
Giggs has been used sparingly by David Moyes this season, featuring in 20 matches across all competitions for the club as he also juggles a coaching role away from his playing career.
There were glimpses last night that he’s still got plenty of quality and that Morgan was wrong to make such a public show of his contempt for Moyes’s selection decision.
Take a look at Morgan’s Tweets last night.
A man of 40 starts in midfield for United. No wonder the self-styled 'biggest club in the world' is in freefall. #Giggs— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 19, 2014
