Abe’s Oddysee joins the ever-growing list of retro classics to get a 21st century touch-up and it’s looking very nice too we think.
The Oddworld series first saw the light of day back in 1997 when enslaved Mudokon Abe set out on the heroic journey to save his kind from being made into food. Praised at the time for it’s innovative gameplay and slick graphics Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee was a 2D scene-based puzzle-platformer with a steep learning curve and a game sprite that offered a dark yet charming appeal in contrast to high-speed hedgehogs and moustachioed plumbers.
For the first time since 2001 when game sequel Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee set the game on a 3D plane on the Xbox, a new version is in production to keep the love for Oddworld alive. Entitled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty the new game will make use of up-to-date sound design, dynamic lighting, organic animation and special effects to make Oddworld relevant for today’s gaming audience..
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is being developed by Just Add Water and will be coming soon to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation VITA with PC, Wii U, Mac and Linux versions to follow. Below is a gameplay trailer showcasing Oddworld’s fresh new audio/visual treatment. Please feel free to pitch in your views on New 'n' Tasty in the comments below.
