Forgotten Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel is preparing to undertake a major step up in his comeback from injury.
The Dutchman signed from Vitesse last summer but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in a Capital One cup game against Swindon in September.
Touted as a potential Frank Lampard successor, the midfielder was not expected to play this season but has been stepping up his comeback in recent weeks.
He confirmed via his Instagram page on Thursday afternoon that he is travelling with Chelsea's under-21 squad to Manchester, where the Blues face Manchester United at 7pm on Friday evening.
Also pictured above were teammates Adam Nditi, Nathan Ake and Charles Musonda.
It's unclear whether Van Ginkel is likely to start the game but providing there are no late setbacks it is likely he will be involved at some stage against last year's under-21 title winners.
While Jose Mourinho will be unwilling to rush him back to first team action this season, should Van Ginkel come through tomorrow's game unscathed, it will be a target he will not give up on as he eyes making Holland's World Cup squad with Kevin Strootman recently being ruled out by injury.
