Stan Collymore has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to sign Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.
The former Liverpool forward was asked about potential signings for Liverpool ahead of their possible Champions League participation and revealed that he’d heard gossip the Ukrainian winger was more than likely heading for Tottenham Hotspur.
“My understanding by the way is that Spurs are very interested in Konoplyanka and that could almost become a done deal come summer time – a little bit of gossip I’ve heard from a very very reliable source,” said Collymore in a Google+ Hangout for BleacherReport.
The 24-year-old left sided winger was strongly tipped to make a move to Anfield last January which is when initial reports that Spurs were interested started to break out.
Liverpool tried to do a deal for the player but couldn’t get through the various complications of the transfer before the deadline was up at the end of January.
Collymore’s comments suggest that Tottenham have been working hard behind the scenes to try and iron out those same technicalities to reach a point where a deal can go through quickly after the World Cup.
Dnipro have confirmed talks with Tottenham over a summer move with Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi revealing he’s already been in touch with the North London club.
“I have contact with the Tottenham president. I am talking with him. He is interested in Konoplyanka. We are in the stage of negotiations and are perhaps close to signing a contract if Yehven agrees,” he told Ukrainian TV channel 2+2.
It would be a remarkable transfer for Spurs if they pull it off, especially considering Liverpool are the more likely to finish with Champions League football in the bank.
However, Spurs won’t mind one little bit and it’s another good example of the skill they have when it comes to negotiating transfer and the first possible sign that head coach Tim Sherwood is being given the control over transfers that he’s asked for.
