Why Man City, Man United and Liverpool need Barca to sack Gerardo Martino

Camp Nou

Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool could all suffer if Barcelona keep Gerardo Martino in charge over the summer.

Catalan based newspaper Sport has revealed that Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino asked for eight players last October, who he thought would help transform his Barca side.

Martino continues to be linked with an exit in the summer as his job comes under question, with rumours seemingly linking different managers with the Nou Camp job every week.

The eight players in question include several players linked with Premier League moves while one player currently represents a Premier League side.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is the standout name, with Martino apparently keen on signing the Argentine to his squad.

There is also bad news for Manchester United with defender Neven Subotic and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan appearing on the list while there’s also Liverpool interest with Arda Turan named.

Subotic has been linked as a Nemanja Vidic replacement while Gundogan has been linked with an Old Trafford move for a significant period of time.

Turan is a player who could help to improve Liverpool even further and Brendan Rodgers has a clear place for him down Liverpool’s left wing. However, the prospect of a move to Barcelona could be too tempting for him to turn down.

Should Martino stay at the club this summer, there’s a good chance he will push for targets on that list, hoping that his club will back him in the fight to wrestle the La Liga title away from Real Madrid, should Los Blancos win it.

It also works the other way, with Martino likely to want to strengthen if his side do win a piece of silverware.

Fingers crossed Tata gets the boot if you’re a City, United or Liverpool fan.
