The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled badly during his debut season in England, making just three Premier League starts.
Reports surfaced during the January transfer window that Spurs were willing to cut their losses and sell him back to Italy, but such a deal never materialised.
The Argentine international may have had a horrid campaign so far, but there is no doubting his undeniable ability and he showed during his spell at Roma that he has all the hallmarks of a future star.
After injuring his back at the beginning of February, Lamela has subsequently missed the last six weeks of action.
His scenario at Spurs plus his latest injury has come as a real blow to his World Cup chances, however, as of yesterday, his road to fill fitness is now underway.
In a video posted on Instagram, Lamela is shown to be training hard – working on his fitness. It has an important comment written by Argentina coach Nacho Campo, saying:
“Erik, for a place at the World Cup, all or nothing.”
