The stories linking William Carvalho with Manchester United will not go away until they either sign him or he heads elsewhere from his current club Sporting Lisbon.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has received rave reviews this season, as he has helped the Portuguese side to second in the Primeira Liga, leaving reigning champions FC Porto in their wake and clinging to the coattails of an impressive Benfica side in the race for the league title.
With a reported €45million release-clause, William will not come cheap. But his emergence this season means he is almost certain to leave Lisbon this summer. And with United having reportedly scouted him upwards of 10 times, they are likely to be in the race when that time comes.
There are contrasting reports from Portugal this morning regarding the player, with newspaper Record claiming United are working hard to sign him with a reported compromise offer of €30million (although that is someway off his clause).
However, rival publication A Bola reports that Inter Milan recently sent scouts to watch the player and were mightily impressed with what they saw.
The report claims Inter emissary Gianfranco Bedin “was overwhelmed by the player’s performance” against Porto.
Whether that will lead to a concrete offer remains to be seen. But with each passing week more clubs are linked with a player who looks destined for the top of the game.
The only question for United fans is: Can Moyes get his man?
