Chelsea progressed the Champions League quarter finals after comfortably beating Galatasary 2-0.
The Blues have their name in the hat for this Friday’s Champions League quarter final draw in Nyon, where the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid await.
There are still two more places up for grabs, with Borussia Dortmund in pole position to join Chelsea and the last spot to be decided between Manchester United and Greek champions Olympiakos.
It’s a tough looking final eight, and whatever the outcome on Friday, Chelsea are likely to face an extremely tough opponent.
The Blues have already proven their credentials this season. They have taken Bayern Munich to penalties in the European Super Cup, completed a league double over Manchester City and topped the Premier League for much of 2014 – surely enough to convince the most sceptical supporters?
Belgian wizard Eden Hazard, however, still feels that Chelsea lack something and after defeating Galatasary he explained to beIN Sports – which was later published on their Twitter feed - that his side are Champions League underdogs.
He said: “I think that there are better equipped teams than us to win the Champions League.”
Perhaps Eden Hazard is correct, but if history has told us anything about Chelsea and their coach Jose Mourinho, it is that they can never be deemed as unprepared.
Whilst at Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho masterminded a Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona before beating Bayern Munich in the final.
Two years later, Chelsea repeated the trick by memorably holding out at the Nou Camp to eliminate Barcelona before beating Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena.
Fast forward another two years, and we are awaiting the quarter final draw with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the hat. Eden Hazard may be doubtful, but history proves that Jose Mourinho and his men have what it takes to once again lift Europe’s ultimate prize.
