Atletico Madrid have made their first offer for on-loan shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois claim reports.
The 21-year-old Chelsea loanee is arguably the best young goalkeeper in the world right now.
His development in the Spanish capital and current form this season has caused both Atletico Madrid and Chelsea to have their say in his future.
In 101 competitive games for Atletico spanning over three years, Courtois has kept 50 clean sheets – a statistic which would rival any goalkeeper currently playing top-level football.
The Belgian international is contracted to Chelsea until 2016, but with the Blues already possessing one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Petr Cech, the situation has become rather problematic.
In reality, the current Premier League leaders wouldn’t want to sell Courtois, yet if they can’t guarantee him first-team football, then there needs to be a compromise – a situation which the shot-stopper has spoken of over the past few months.
His current club Atletico Madrid have commented on their interest in taking him on yet another year-loan deal, or perhaps even buying him outright this summer – a scenario which Jose Mourinho scoffed at due to Courtois’ rising price tag.
Such an offer isn’t likely to twist Chelsea’s arm, but it at least shows the intentions of the Rojiblancos and their boss Diego Simeone.
The Spanish paper go on to say that the Blues don’t wish to sell him, but in the event of receiving an offer worth double the €15m that Atletico put on the table, then it will be enough to at least start some realistic negotiations.
At what price would Chelsea be willing to sell Thibaut Courtois?
