Before the Galatasaray game, Chelsea fans were handed an unexpected boost when 21-year-old starlet Marco van Ginkel announced he is fit and ready to put himself back into contention.
On the 24th September, the youngster fell victim to an anterior cruciate ligament injury which put a halt to his highly-impressive start to the season.
On the opening day of the season, the Dutch international made his competitive debut for Chelsea as a substitute against Hull City. A few weeks later, he made his first Champions League start, and just six days after he was injured.
After signing from Vitesse last summer for £8m, he was given a glowing review from his former manager that regarded as being the next Frank Lampard. Unfortunately, Chelsea fans have yet to see the best of van Ginkel, however, their excitement for his return hasn't been diminished in anyway.
In fact, many supporters are tipping him to be the man to partner Matic next season and eventually phase Brazilian international Ramires out of the Chelsea first-team...
Honestly can't wait to get Van Ginkel back! Next season, him and Matic in the pivot will be amazing— Nick H (@NickH_Blues) March 18, 2014
I think when Van Ginkel gets his form and fitness back, he will be easing Ramires out unless he drastically improves.— CFCnet Editor (@cfcneteditor) March 18, 2014
We badly need a mid fielder to partner Matic. Ramires does not fill me with confidence. Maybe van Ginkel can be the answer— Trevon Laugier (@laugier101) March 18, 2014
