Combined Derby and Forest starting XI - What do the stats say?

Derby County West Stand

As the build-up to the big game Saturday heats up, we take a look at one common argument between the two supporters and look at who is, according to statistics, in the Derby County and Nottingham Forest combined starting XI..

Statistics based on data from whoscored.com:

Goalkeeper: Karl Darlow - 6.83

In fairness, both goalkeepers have enjoyed a good season so far and this is shown in the numbers. However, the statistics show the Forest keeper slightly edges ahead of Lee Grant by just 0.08 in the ratings. 1-0 Nottingham Forest.

Right-Back: Andre Wisdom - 6.85

The Liverpool full-back takes the position of right-back ahead of former Aston Villa defender Eric Lichaj in another tight battle which indicates there is little between them. The England under-21 captain has played a huge role in Derby's rise up the table and is rightfully thought to be one of the top full-backs, at this minute, playing outside the top flight. 1-1 Draw.

Centre-Back: Jack Hobbs - 7.62

The former Hull City defender won't be involved in the game Saturday, however, he remains to be the highest rated player from both Nottingham Forest and Derby County's side. In fact, when these two met earlier in the season, he proved to be the difference scoring the only goal in Forest's 1-0 win. 2-1 Nottingham Forest.

Centre-Back: Jake Buxton - 7.41

The cult-hero at the iPro Stadium is Derby County's highest rated player, which is no surprise given how instrumental he has been to their side this season. The former non-league defender continues to be the catalyst in Derby's attempt of promotion this season. 2-2 Draw.

Left-Back: Chris Cohan - 7.26

The left-back position proves to be the most intriguing between the two sides. Despite being named statistically the Championship's best left-back, Craig Forsyth, losses out to Cohen by just 0.01 of a rating. The only reason Cohen isn't currently named the best left-back in the Championship is all-down to not having played enough games due to injury. 3-2 Nottingham Forest.

Right Midfield: Jamie Ward - 7.11

The Derby County winger is by far the highest-rated right-sided player between the two sides, with his closest competition from Forest being Jamie Mackie with a rating of 6.64. 3-3 Draw.

Centre Midfielder: Will Hughes - 7.02

The recently crowned Football League Young Player of the Year has been instrumental for the Rams this season and his inclusion in this combined XI is no surprise. Although he does have the lowest rating between the selected central midfielders. 4-3 Derby County.

Centre Midfielder: Henri Lansbury - 7.24

Another Forest player selected that has made this team, however, won't make the game on Saturday due to injury. The former Arsenal midfielder has been in good form this season and deserves his place in the side and his absence Saturday will be a huge blow. 4-4 Nottingham Forest.

Centre Midfielder: Craig Bryson - 7.24

With three more goals than any Nottingham Forest player, it's no surprise to see Craig Bryson slip into the combined team, especially after such a fantastic year. He is another player, like Buxton and Hobbs, that knows what it's like to score the winner in this match. 5-4 Derby County.

Left Midfielder: Andy Reid - 7.4

The fourth out of five Nottingham Forest players in this combined XI that will not be able to participate in the game on Saturday due to injury. There is no doubt that Reid has been fantastic this season and his inclusion was always to be expected ahead of the likes of Simon Dawkins. 5-5 Nottingham Forest.

Striker: Chris Martin - 7.06

And finally, the decider falls to the striker which is a position that was never in question. The former Norwich striker has scored 15 goals this season, along with 6 assists. Whereas the Republic of Ireland international Simon Cox has scored nearly half the goals and with less assists.

Full Time: Derby County 6 - 5 Nottingham Forest
