Olympiakos put United to the sword in the first leg tie - winning 2-0 in Piraeus as a lacklustre United once again looked far behind their opponents.
On this occasion however it was a Greek side that under Sir Alex Ferguson would have presented fodder to the Red Devils.
In Greece the result was savoured, celebrated and just as unexpected.
And the press in Athens are absolutely sure about one thing tonight - their Greek warriors can complete a famous victory this evening at Old Trafford.
For United to go through they must score three goals at least in 120 minutes of football - and after that they would be rolling the dice on penalties.
But in Greece this just doesn’t seem like an option.
And the press have even likened the game to the recent hit sequel ‘300: Rise of an Empire.’
Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel and directed by Noam Murro the film speaks of a fictional retelling of the Battle of Salamis - which saw a Greek alliance of city-states fight the Persian Empire intent on invasion.
It stars Gangster Squad star Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles - the legendary Greek commander - and the tagline for the film ‘Seize Tour Glory’ is visible on the side of buses and tube station escalators across the country.
But in the Greek press they have decided to mock up that image.
Instead of ‘300’ it is ‘Thrylos’ - the nickname of the club which translated means ‘legend’ and they have mocked up the face of who I believe is Giannis Maniatis - but could also be Paulo Machado ot Dimitris Siovas, basically any of the ‘Kos players with a full beard.
And it just shows the fanfare in Greece at the moment - as they begin to believe that this could just be their night.
