In form Sheffield Wednesday put yet another massive dent in the side of QPR’s promotion hopes last night as they romped to a 3-0 win at Hillsborough against Harry Redknapp’s side.
At one point QPR looked odds on to sail back into to the Premier League - but now they look destined to the play-offs as Burnley and Leicester City begin counting their chickens for a Premier League tilt.
Goals from Chris Maguire, Leon Best and Lewis Buxton saw The Owls walk all over QPR - whose recent form has been anything but promotion-like.
They are now ten points behind the Claret and Blue juggernaut that is Burnley - and also concede a swing of 16 goals difference to Sean Dyche’s side.
With just ten games left - that is seemingly it for Redknapp’s men, and he may as well begin to plan for a tough end of season battle for promotion with the likes of Derby County, Wigan Athletic, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Brighton all vying to join them.
Considering the litany of star names at Loftus Road their inability to win a tie like this will certainly cause great concern for Redknapp - and one of those star names has been unflinching in his self-critique of the performance.
Joey Barton is often ranting on Twitter - but very rarely is the target of his vitriol aimed at himself and his own team-mates.
But he gave a brutally honest assessment of the performance in Yorkshire last night…
If people want to make up falsities, then thats their prerogative. There are lots of excuses for last night, none are acceptable.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 19, 2014
We simply weren't good enough and the lack of effort was appalling. We let down any fans who travelled. But its gone.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 19, 2014
Nothing can be done about it now. We must stay together in tough times, otherwise we will be in serious danger of not fulfilling our aim.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 19, 2014
I still believe we can do it. We're gonna have to do it the hard way. But did anyone expect it any other way?— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 19, 2014
Now is the time for fronting up and to keep moving forward. Not the time for sulking. I have no time for negativity. Have a good day people.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 19, 2014
