Manchester City latest: Spaniard linked with summer move; midfielder talks derby day

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City could have a new man between the sticks next season with L’Equipe reporting that Victor Valdes could soon be heading to the Etihad Stadium.

Talk Sport have picked up on the initial reports, which claim City are close to agreeing a deal to bring the Spanish international to England.

Where that leaves current number one Joe Hart is anyone’s guess. But we cannot see him sticking around only to play second-fiddle to one of the most experienced stoppers in Europe.

In other news, Blues midfielder Fernandinho believes next week’s Manchester derby could change City’s season for the better.

After going out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League in the space of just four days, Manuel Pellegrini’s side now only have the Premier League left to play for.

And in quotes published in the Express the Brazil international said, “That game can change everything.

“I hope our team will be ready and we can walk the streets without any problems and that our fans can give us some hugs afterwards.”

City will be quietly confident given United’s struggles at Old Trafford this season. But they will be taking nothing for granted, knowing as they do that form counts for little on such occasions.

And finally, City may be battling United off the field this summer, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that both clubs are keen on Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The links are not new, but the latest story claims the Blues are ready to table a £30million bid in an attempt to sign the England international ahead of their fierce rivals.
