Diego Maradona has offered his opinion on where Mario Balotelli should end up this summer.
The mercurial striker looked to at last be ready to carry a team on his shoulders with a stunning start to life at AC Milan following his €20million move from Manchester City last January.
Netting 12 goals in 13 appearances, the 23-year-old almost single-handedly dragged then-coach Massimo Allegri’s side to Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.
Unfortunately for the Italy international, however, matters have turned sour for the Rossoneri this term, with the club in free fall as the troubled star has been dogged by controversy and inconsistent form.
Widespread reports have claimed that the Milan hierarchy are ready to cash in on Balotelli after the World Cup this summer, keen receive a sizable fee for him and be free of his wages to rebuild.
Arsenal have been linked with an audacious move for Balotelli - in need of a striker and potentially receiving financial backing from Puma - whilst Chelsea have inevitably cropped up as an option, even if Jose Mourinho and his former charge at Inter have a tumultuous history.
But Napoli legend Maradona wants to see the Italian international remain in his homeland - albeit with a move south into the shadow of Vesuvius.
The Argentine has implored his beloved Napoli to take a chance on the volatile hit man, seeing the San Paolo as the perfect setting for Balotelli to fulfill his largely untapped potential.
“Napoli, take Balotelli,” Maradona told Neapolitan television station + N. “He’d be a sensational hit.
“Balotelli would find his ideal location at Napoli. He is very strong.
“Problems handling him? Nonsense! Leave it to me to sort out.”
