Arsenal morning news: Diaby hope and a new deal for Koscielny

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Arsenal’s Young Gunners have crashed out of the UEFA Youth League to Spanish outfit Barcelona.

The under-19 side had made it to the quarter-final stage but found Barca too hot to handle in Catalonia.

Goals from Chuba Akpom and a wonderful strike from Serge Gnabry had on two occasions pulled Arsenal level - but goals from Adama Traore and Wilfrid Kaptoum pulled Barca clear.

The game also saw Kris Olsson miss a penalty and goalkeeper Dejan Iliev sent off for a foul on Munir El Haddadi.

Abou Diaby has been speaking about his injury - and feels he could be back from his succession of serious problems before the end of the season.

Diaby even believes he could still make the French World Cup team this summer:

“I will take stock with Arsenal medical staff early in April, but I hope to resume collective training sessions very soon. My priorities? Feeling fine and playing again before the end of the season. The French team? I have never abandoned the idea to go to the World Cup. I have always kept that in a corner of my mind to go on working. As soon as I will be back on the pitch, everything is possible."

Arsenal have reportedly decided on Polish right-back Lukasz Piszczek as the replacement for Bacary Sagna.

The Borussia Dortmund full-back has been out for most of the season but his stock is well known after an excellent campaign last season.

Valued at around £7 million he is also being targeted Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal tied down Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Gedion Zelalem to new deals yesterday - and are now said to be targeting a new contract for French centre-back Laurent Koscielny.

The former Lorient star has been in great form for the past 12 months - and even reportedly attracted the interest of Barcelona.

But he is set to commit his future to the Gunners if the right deal comes forward.
