The Blues midfielder's first spell at the club coincided with some of the Ivorian's best form at Stamford Bridge, where he returns to on Tuesday night.
Drogba, who spent eight trophy-laden years at the club, will make an emotional homecoming at Stamford Bridge for the round-of-16 second leg after the 1-1 draw in Turkey three weeks ago.
The Ivorian will have mixed emotions as he looks to steer his side through to the last eight of the competition while he is also set to receive a hero's welcome by the home fans.
Jose Mourinho took his pre-match press conference to praise a striker who he may yet look to bring back this summer and Matic followed suit.
The Serb told Goal.com: "I was here when Drogba played for Chelsea and he's a great player.
"He's a legend of our club. It's going to be good for him and for all the fans for him to come to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans won't forget him because he's an excellent player and very good person."
Matic refuses to rule out the Turkish giants, who secured a draw thanks to Aurelien Chedjou's equaliser in the Türk Telekom Arena, but feels Chelsea's class should tell in the return leg.
"You never know in football and you can't say 'Chelsea are going to win' but we believe," he added.
"Chelsea are always one of the favourites to get to the final."
