Chelsea and Manchester United’s preparations for their Champions League second leg clashes take centre stage today with the Blues level at 1-1 against Galatasaray while United trail Olympiakos 2-0 from the first leg.
The pressure on both clubs right now is immense, more so with United with several fans likely to be calling for Moyes’ head if United lose at home, again, tomorrow night.
To create a bit of contrast, we’ve decided to take a look back at the stories making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Spurs set United huge price for Bale’
Tottenham Hotspur reportedly set a £70 million asking price to Manchester United for winger and forward Gareth Bale.
The Welshman was linked with Manchester United, one of the only clubs in Europe who physically tried to stop him signing for Real Madrid last summer.
Bale eventually moved to Real Madrid in a deal worth around £85 million last summer.
‘Neymar dreams of playing for a big club like Chelsea’
Then Santos star Neymar was being linked with all sorts of moves this time last year before he eventually opted for a switch to Barcelona.
The Brazilian was tipped for a transfer to Stamford Bridge and he didn’t rule it out, suggesting that he’d be interested in signing for a big club like the Blues.
“I dream of playing in Europe, for a big club like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea,” he told Esporte Espectacular.
‘Arsenal focus on £20m striker’
The Express suggested that Arsenal were ready to focus on signing Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina ahead of Manchester City.
Florence newspaper La Nazione suggested that the Gunners had stepped up their pursuit of the Montenegrin to try and give themselves an advantage in the summer race to sign him.
However, Jovetic eventually moved to City to become one of four key strikers currently playing for Manuel Pellegrini.
