Wenger craves strikers to supplement his artillery but could Batshuayi, likened to a Chelsea loan star, help relieve Giroud of goal-scoring burden?
Michy Batshuayi is not the first young footballer to issue a come-and-get-me plea to one of the elite Premier League clubs and the Standard Liege hotshot will certainly not be the last, telling Belgium TV rtbf.be recently: "I do not think I’ll stay. Many things can happen but I [have] ambitions.
"I am interested in the German and English championships. They are physical and technical championships. Personally, I like Arsenal. There is a good philosophy at the club where trust is given to young players. This is a very technical team playing good football, and since I was little this was a team who I liked."
Belgium is currently one of the conveyor belts for modern footballing talent as the Diables Rouges can brag an exquisitely-balanced national side at this summer's World Cup tournament in Brazil, containing both physically-impressive players as well as the technically-adept.
From front to back, Belgium have been responsible for giving Chelsea a goalkeeping headache due to the form of Thibaut Courtois, possess Vincent Kompany as their captain, imposing midfielder Marouane Fellaini, Premier League star Eden Hazard and powerful strike pair Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku.
They also are set for the future, with Chelsea starlet Thorgan Hazard, Youri Tielemans and wantaway attacker Batshuayi. Here are some facts…
1): Batshuayi's form has been so consistent throughout the domestic and European footballing calendar this season that he has been regularly scouted by participant member clubs from the top divisions, including the Premier League with Everton and Arsenal among others all keen.
2): The player's club may well hold out for a substantial compensation package should any interested club place an official bid. Earlier in the season, Liege president Roland Duchatelet told Het Laatste Nieuws: "Arsenal are one of many clubs who follow Batshuayi. We're not willing to let Michy go this season." He is valued by transfermarkt.co.uk at £8m.
3): With 18 goals and three assists from 29 Jupiler Pro League matches, Batshuayi, 20, has been responsible for a goal or assist every 109 minutes he is on the field. He has also scored twice and assisted thrice in Europa League and Europa League qualifying competition this season, from 632 minutes competed.
4): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's ability to nurture talent may be tested by Batshuayi as, while he is no doubt supremely-skilled, he is known as a bit of a hothead and has a disciplinary problem. He has, thus far this season, received eight bookings in all competitions. He has also been embroiled in a scandal that saw him allegedly invite girls back to his hotel room prior to a match…
5): Batshuayi is quick, strong and a commanding centre forward and has therefore drawn comparisons to his compatriot at Chelsea, on loan at Everton, Lukaku, said The Mirror in December, 2013, thus alerting Toffees manager Roberto Martinez to a potential long-term solution should Romelu return to Stamford Bridge.
