Former Red Devil and now successful pundit Gary Neville labelled Manchester United’s performance as unacceptable.
Manchester United went into their North West derby with Liverpool at Old Trafford knowing only a win would suffice if they were to keep their top four hopes alive.
In reality, those three points never looked likely as the hosts set up as the away team from the outset.
Before the clash, David Moyes uttered the unthinkable as he openly admitted that Liverpool were favourites going into the clash – a defeatist attitude which would have cast doubts over the abilities of some of his players.
From kick-off, Liverpool started to control proceedings, knocking the ball around with ease – laying claim to David Moyes’ pre-match assertions.
After Steven Gerrard had given Liverpool a lead going into the half-time interval, it was up to Moyes to rally his troops and lay siege to Simon Mignolet's goal. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, no such thing happened – with the 3-0 full-time result failing to do justice to Liverpool’s dominance.
Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville was on punditry duties, and took to social networking site Twitter after the game to demonstrate his displeasure at the hosts' unacceptable performance.
Unacceptable that! Well done to united fans!! That's it three days off this! It's gonna be raw!!— Gary Neville (@GNev2) marzo 16, 2014
Unfortunately for Gary Neville, his next coming together with fellow Sky pundit Jamie Carragher promises to be a painful experience – as will the next few days for Manchester United supporters all over the world.
Where do United go from here? Luckily, Olympiakos at home in the Champions League is just around the corner and offers the perfect opportunity to put things right and a big victory will restore some much-needed faith around Old Trafford.
