In a game which meant so much to both sides, it was ultimately settled by a wonderful individual strike within the first two minutes of the game from Czech Republic international Tomas Rosicky.
The official timing of Rosicky’s goal was clocked at 01:12 minutes, the fastest goal Arsenal have recorded against Spurs in Premier League history.
The win for Arsenal, however, was far from straightforward.
After Tomas Rosicky had shocked the home supporters at White Hart Lane, the hosts fought back valiantly and it required a number of last-ditch tackles, blocks and goalkeeping heroics to keep Tim Sherwood’s men at bay and preserve their clean sheet.
For the best part Arsenal’s nine-year trophy drought, the Gunners had been criticised by pundits and experts alike for not having the ability to grind out results and win ugly. Not anymore.
The victory was exactly what was required from a side missing key creative players such as Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey, and it will do wonders going into next weekend’s huge clash with Premier League leaders Chelsea.
But, before the Gunners look too far ahead, they deserved their moment of joy and both players and fans alike celebrated vigorously as they know how much the victory meant.
A number of Arsenal supporters took to Twitter to express their joy, with Jack Wilshere in particular ‘buzzing’ from the result.
Here are a seceltion of Arsenal’s players’ Tweets after the game:
