'Revenge transfer fear' the reason Manchester United have a Kroos boost

Toni Kroos & Julian Baumgartlinger

Manchester United get one piece of good news regarding Toni Kroos thanks to Real Madrid ruling themselves out of the running.

Manchester United can breathe slightly easier regarding their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, in the knowledge Real Madrid do not plan on complicating their pursuit.

Real's name had been tentatively linked with the midfielder, but for strategic reasons have no desire to get involved in the player's contract wrangle.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Real's own fear of seeing Bayern snap up their own players, will prevent them moving for Kroos.

They are particularly concerned their young academy players could be at risk, from a combination of Bayern's financial power - and the Pep Guardiola factor; a mix of the lure of working with the Spaniard, and his knowledge of up and coming Spaniards.

Real clearly see Bayern as a big bear they have no intention of poking, and with plenty of talent in their central midfield already, they can afford to look elsewhere if they need to.

The paper report: "Bayern pay players a lot and have a lot of money. It's better not to consider a possible move from the German club.

"The first team is not short, much of it purchased, but want to incorporate young talent to the academy and it was looking at different Spanish youth football players."

Real Madrid already have Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso, Asier Allarramendi and when he returns from injury, Sami Khedira in central midfield, a quartet which puts anything United can offer to shame.

The idea is that next season, United will be able to boast a midfield of their own which can rival anybody's, and they have this summer to get it right. Toni Kroos could just be a key part of that.

Real moving out of the running clarifies Kroos' comments from earlier this month that he has limited choices for his future at present, thought to be only Bayern and United.
