Jon Flanagan says he thinks the manner of Liverpool’s win at Manchester United will cause their title rivals to worry. Liverpool completely dominated the 3-0 victory at Old Trafford yesterday.
“I’m sure the other clubs up there will be worried after this result but we are just concentrating on ourselves. We all believe we can do it, we just need to keep pushing on,” he told Liverpool’s website.
Brendan Rodgers called the victory ‘outstanding’ suggesting that his side were dominant from the first whistle against their rivals.
“I thought we were outstanding today. We had real dominance in the game. From the first whistle, our intent to attack, to press and to work as a team was outstanding,” Rodgers told the press.
Steven Gerrard has revealed he feels Brendan Rodgers is the key to Liverpool’s challenge for a first league title since the 1989/1990 season.
“I think you’ve got to give credit to the manager. He keeps switching it, tinkering with the formation and the tactics. We played a diamond today and totally bossed it in the middle of the park. When you come away from home you’ve got to keep the ball and dominate the middle of the pitch,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.
A report in the Sunday People claims that Barcelona will approach Brendan Rodgers to become their new manager this summer. Rodgers continues to excel in charge of Liverpool while there have been reports Barca could replace Tata Martino all season.
“I haven’t got an agent so I don’t have someone pumping stories out there about me not being happy. There will be plenty of time, come the end of the season, to sit down and talk about a new deal,” said the Liverpool boss.
In transfer news, Liverpool are one of two Premier League sides reported to have watched Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino over the weekend. Chelsea are the other side believed to be interested but Hoffenheim’s coach has warned off any interested parties.
“Not at all (We don’t assume he’s leaving). Of course we know the mechanics of the market, but players who have proven themselves and fit into our system well we want to keep here,” Markus Gisdol is quoted by Bild.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for highly rated Reading left-back Jordan Obita. The 20-year-old has put in a number of impressive performances for Reading in the Championship this season as a full-back and a left sided winger.
