Defender Danny Rose has labelled Tottenham’s performances this season as 'unacceptable' with the side’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League seemingly in tatters.

Spurs lost 1-0 in the North London derby yesterday – meaning they’re seven points off fourth place with the three sides immediately above them having played a game more.

Rose is quoted in the London Evening Standard, saying: “Some of the games we’ve lost and drawn at home have been unacceptable. Have we played below our potential? Of course.

“You look at some of our results at home and you compare them with the Tottenham teams of two or three seasons ago. We were beating those teams comfortably. So it’s something to look at and we’re definitely disappointed that this season might finish without us in the top four.”

Jan Vertonghen has said that Tottenham have stayed at the same level as last season whilst this season’s top four have improved in the Premier League.

He said: “I don’t want to look at the table at the moment, as I think the gap will look very big. What needs to happen in the summer? That’s something for the chairman and the manager. I can’t say that.

“I think we have the players to achieve the Champions League, so I hope we can achieve it next year.”

Midfielder Sandro said the side gave everything in yesterday’s defeat to Arsenal despite the side not being able to find the goal to get something out of the game.

He told the Tottenham website: “We gave everything, we pushed, but it wasn’t enough.

“We just needed a goal. Chadli was a good chance, Ade as well, I think we had a lot of chances.

“I know this means a lot to everyone. It’s the biggest game and we lost. It’s difficult.”
