Marseille legend Jean-Pierre Papin has backed Manchester United to beat Olympiakos convincingly.
The best remedy for a disappointing defeat is to get back out there and avenge it – an attitude displayed by former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Following Manchester United’s heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool, Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Olympiakos couldn’t come sooner for David Moyes’ team.
The Red Devils host the Greek champions at Old Trafford looking at avenge a 2-0 defeat suffered in Greece three weeks ago.
That day, Manchester United were out of sorts – failing to test the goalkeeper throughout the ninety minutes. On Wednesday, they can’t afford to be so lacklustre.
As a result of Manchester United’s struggling domestic campaign, a top four spot and a guaranteed place in next season’s Champions League looks all but over. However, the Champions League gives David Moyes one last opportunity to make a success of this season.
One man who still holds faith for the Red Devils is former Ballon d’Or winner Jean-Pierre Papin.
Speaking on beIN Sports, the Marseille legend says that he has always liked Manchester United, and believes they will join Barcelona as the only team to recover from a 2-0 first-leg deficit to reach the quarter finals.
French journalist Chris Peilow quoted the 50-year.old former goalscorer on Twitter:
Ballon d'Or winner Jean-Pierre Papin on BeIN SPORTS: "I've always liked Manchester United...I think they'll beat Olympiakos 4-0." #MUFC— Chris Peilow (@cjpeilow) marzo 16, 2014
It isn’t beyond Manchester United to beat Olympiakos 4-0, after all they thrashed Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 in the group stages.
If the Red Devils are to succeed, however, they must improve greatly from their Liverpool defeat and remain positive throughout – a trait which would endorse David Moyes to the Old Trafford crowd.
