Arsenal latest: Sporting star scouted and Gibbs praises 'fantastic' performance

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Emirates…

Following his match-winning strike in the North London derby on Sunday, Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has been speaking about those who believe the Gunners will fall short this season.

In quotes published by Sky Sports, the Czech international said, “You cannot influence what the people around you are saying. I mean no disrespect to you (the media), but I absolutely don’t care what you are saying. Don’t take it negatively, but it is like that.

“The only thing that you can influence is on the pitch. The truth is on the pitch, nothing else matters.”

There is no doubt the win over Tottenham has given Arsenal renewed belief going into the final stages of the campaign. But with Manchester City and Liverpool also getting vital wins at the weekend, who will come out on top is still anyone’s guess.

Kieran Gibbs has also been speaking about Sunday’s game, in an interview with the club’s official website.

Admitting that Arsenal were not at their best despite the victory, the defender said, “We have played a lot better and they dominated for some spells.

“We have to take it as a positive that we scored early. You have seen in the past that we can concede after scoring but here we were fantastic.”

Defensively that was certainly the case and they now have as good a chance as any of the chasing pack to claim the title come May.

And finally, the Gunners were reportedly scouting William Carvalho once again on Sunday.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has been generating plenty of (gossip) column inches in recent months and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reports that Arsenal were among the clubs who had scouts at the game between Sporting and FC Porto.
