Successful pundit Gary Neville has heaped praise on Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.

Serbian international Nemanja Matic is certainly winning his plaudits since making the return to Stamford Bridge.

Is he the buy of the season? Despite only joining the current Premier League leaders in January, his performances certainly make him a contender.

The £21m defensive midfielder has made seven Premier League starts since making his move from Portuguese giants Benfica, and has shown defensive qualities which have far outshone his teammates. During his seven games, he has averaged more tackles and interceptions than any other Chelsea player – proving why Jose Mourinho regards him as such a valuable player.

Unfortunately for Matic, Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa was his first Premier League loss of the season, but that didn’t stop the Serbian from gaining yet more recognition for a heroic display.

Football pundit Gary Neville is not a man so eager to dish out praise, therefore when he does, it seems all the more merited. During a first-half masterclass by Matic, the former Manchester United defender took to Twitter to let his feelings be known.

He Tweeted:

The 25-year-old Blues star was deservedly singled out as one of Chelsea’s better players. He made three interceptions, five clearances and produced more key passes and dribbles than attacking midfielder Oscar.

The final result will have disappointed boss Jose Mourinho, but he still felt that his side produced a good performances against very tricky opponents.

Despite Manchester City having three games in hand, Chelsea still lead the Premier League table by six points and when taking into consideration the Blues’ remaining fixtures, new star Nemanja Matic has a very good chance of finishing the season a Premier League winner.
