The Vine that sums up Tottenham's nightmare derby start against Arsenal

Tim Sherwood Press Conference 12/02/2014

Matters could scarcely have begun more poorly for Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur’s motivation heading into Sunday’s North London derby was undoubtedly two-pronged.

Before Tim Sherwood’s men stood the chance to dent their fierce rivals’ title hopes whilst seizing what a golden opportunity to cling to life in the fleeting race for Champions League football.

The man on the bench certainly hoped to see his charges get in the Gunners’ faces from the opening whistle in pursuit of a result, but just 72 seconds in the party would already be spoilt.

Tomas Rosicky found himself in a bit of space at a difficult angle and thumped home a searing strike for Arsenal just after the one minute mark, leaving Spurs in arrears almost immediately.

Predictably, Sherwood was incensed and put his disgust on display for all looking on by tossing away his jacket and laying into his players.

A nightmare start for a side with no time to waste it was - one meriting such an emotionally charged reaction from a manager fighting to maintain his place in the dugout this summer.
