Chelsea morning news: Mourinho referee fury and Cole to join former Blues boss?

Jose Mourinho Chelsea

All the latest news and gossip from Stamford Bridge this morning.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Aston Villa yesterday evening - in a game that saw Willian, Ramires and coach Jose Mourinho all shown their marching orders.

The Chelsea boss consistently stated in his post-match press conference that he didn’t want to get into trouble with the FA for ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ but he still gave some comments about the referee Chris Foy:

"We must be very, very unlucky to have another refereeing performance like this one. This is not about one mistake from a referee. This is about a performance from minute one to minute 94. I don't know why I was sent off. I asked, but the referee refused to speak to me.”

Mourinho then commented on the title race - and after this defeat he insists the league leaders are not in the title race - but instead a ‘match race’:

“We are not in the title race. We are in a match race. We play every match. We try to win, we think we can win. We give everything to win. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. But that's our race; improve and try our best every match."

Nemanja Matic had a goal disallowed in the game - which would have been his first for the club.

He controlled the ball at the back-post before hammering in beyond Brad Guzan from close range.

On first look it certainly seems the Serbian handles the ball - but he believes he was hard done by, suggesting the ball hit his shoulder:

“Yes, I think that I touched the ball with the shoulder. Maybe that was a goal, I’m not sure, I have to see it one more time. This is football, we can do nothing about that now.”

Real Madrid are reportedly looking at Ashley Cole as an option for their left-back transfer moves this summer.

Cole is out of contract in the summer, and former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to not be impressed with Fabio Coentrao or Marcelo in a defensive role.

With that in mind he is said to be chasing two new left-backs this summer - Alberto Moreno of Sevilla and Cole.
