The Portuguese boss has preferred Cesar Azpilicueta in the position this campaign - and Cole is rumoured to be considering moves to America and teams in Spain and Italy.
With that in mind a left-back is likely to be on the Chelsea boss’ wish-list this summer - as he likes to have two players for both positions.
The likes of Southampton’s Luke Shaw and VfL Wolfsburg’s Swiss star Ricardo Rodriguez have been linked but the most recent name rearing its head has been that of Lazio wing-back Senad Lulic.
The 28-year-old Bosnian international is said to be available at £9 million from the capital club and is in the Yuriy Zhirkov mould.
He certainly prefers to go forward more than he does come back - and in reality he is more of a winger at the moment than defender.
And today he showed just why there may be interest in his services.
His Lazio side bagged a 2-0 win away at Cagliari this afternoon with goals from Lulic and Seydou Keita doing the business.
Lulic opened the scoring - showcasing his swashbuckling attacking style to get beyond the defence and fire home.
