Tottenham morning news: Vertonghen unsure of future; three ‘quality signings’ linked

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur will target three quality signings this summer according to the Telegraph.

The paper reports that after spending a fortune on new additions last summer, Spurs will look to bring in a trio of players who can make an immediate impact on the new campaign.

That does not rule out the possibility of further, younger arrivals who could look to push for a first-team chance in the future. But it appears Tottenham want to hit the ground running next season.

The same newspaper reports that one man who arrived last summer – Erik Lamela – is at serious risk of missing the World Cup as his injury problems continue.

With the Argentine unlikely to return to the first-team squad before mid-April, he will have little time to prove he is match-fit and ready for a spot on the plane to Brazil. Any further set-back in his recovery and that chance may well be gone altogether.

And finally, Jan Vertonghen has been speaking about his future in an interview with Sport Wereld.

The defender is quoted as saying he is yet to hear anything from Spurs about a possible new deal.

I focus now to the very end of the season. Whether I play at Tottenham next year? I have not spoken with the club.”

Although he did add that for now he is 100% committed to the club, only the time will tell if he remains at White Hart Lane for the long haul.
