3 players Manchester United will be keeping an eye on this weekend

Old Trafford

Manchester United watch - a Michael Ballack's protege, a French U21 star and a Wigan Athletic's loanee all feature.

In our newest feature, we look at three players Manchester United should be keeping an eye on this weekend.

First up, we're going to look at three players already known to Manchester United manager David Moyes - two who he is said to have already considered bringing to Old Trafford, and another who is contracted to Manchester United, but currently out on loan.

Lars Bender

An already proven international star is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender. The 24-year-old will feature as fourth placed Leverkusen embark on the daunting trip to the the Allianz Arena, the home of Bayern Munich. The game could throw-up an interesting battle, as the match has the potential to pitch Bender against another well-documented Manchester United target - Toni Kroos.

If the player touted as Michael Ballack's protege demonstrates his mettle, Moyes could step up his interest in the German international.

Samuel Umtiti

Umtiti is a young centre-back who will likely be starting a game this weekend that will pitch him against former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

France under-21 international Umtiti will undoubtedly be in for a tough encounter when fifth placed Lyon host second placed Monaco on Sunday afternoon. The 20-year-old is apparently well-known to the Manchester United manager, who is said to have mulled over a 'cheeky bid' for the Lyon starlet during the January transfer window.

Nick Powell

Moyes will no doubt also be getting reports this weekend on midfielder / forward Nick Powell, a Manchester United player currently loaned out to Wigan Athletic. Wigan travel to Portman Road, home to Ipswich Town, in good spirits after winning their last four games.

England under-21 star Powell is thought likely to be back in the frame after several months out injured. The return of the Manchester United wonderkid will be a huge boost for Wigan, as he is likely to play a big role in their push for promotion to the Premier League.

Manchester United fans will be eager to see Powell playing again, as a recent poll showed that he is popular with the supporters, many of whom hope that he will make the first-team squad next season.
