Sheffield Wednesday fans stick it to Leeds loanee Wickham on Twitter - 'Serves you right!'

Sunderland Inc Wickham

Sheffield Wednesday fans have little sympathy for former striker Connor Wickham - as his time with Leeds United gets worse.

If Leeds United fans still had any hope of making it into the play-off places, surely it has been extinguished today.

They lost to automatic promotion chasers Burnley today - and now Brian McDermott’s side are 13 points off of Nottingham Forest in the final play-off place, and they also have seven teams in between them.

With just 11 games left to turn it around - another year in the second tier unfortunately looks likely.

For Leeds fans today was an improved performance - in comparison to their woeful displays against Reading and Bolton Wanderers.

But they came up against very impressive opposition in the form of Burnley today - who just had enough to come away with a 2-1 win.

But Leeds fans were not pleased with the performance of one player - £9 million forward Connor Wickham.

Sunderland paid Ipswich Town that whopping sum of money for the player back in 2011 - and Leeds faced a battle to snap him up on loan until the end of the season.

After his time at Sheffield Wednesday everybody wanted a piece of him.

But it was McDermott who got his man - and so far he has not impressed.

Wickham is yet to score in his four appearances for the club - and the fans today were certainly not impressed with his performance.

A look on suggests the reason why.

He was the joint lowest rated outfield starter in the game. He barely made an impact on the game and Leeds fans are wondering if McDermott can get the best out of him.

He played Wickham out on the wide right of a front three today - and that is certainly not his position.

Wickham is a central striker, but that still does not excuse a pass success ratio of just 40% - a rather dismal percentage it has to be said.

But as Leeds toil the team he turned his back on to join them on loan are flying.

Sheffield Wednesday thrashed Birmingham City 4-1 at Hillsborough this afternoon - and The Owls are now just two points and two places behind their Yorkshire rivals.

Something Wednesday fans were keen to remind Wickham of on Twitter today...
